Akai Apc mini not lighting

Does anybody know how to get the Akai APC mini pads to light up. Just got one for use with Mix Emergency. Basically to trigger FX and FX Sequencer presets for now.
The mapping to FX bit is straight forward but the pads are not lit making it difficult to see in a dark environment.

Is there a way to do this? There is no editor software for the device on the Akai site, I'm guessing they only want it to be used with Ableton.

If there is no solution I'm going to return it.
